WINNER: ROD'S CONSTRUCTION, "TSG WORKSHOP FOR ESKOM"
The project entailed revamping/reconstructing of the fire damaged workshop and offices and also demolition of a section of the existing building for accommodating the construction of a new high bay. There was a fair component of civil work undertaken including the construction of a huge underground oil storage tank with pumps.
The fire damaged steel structure had to be sandblasted on site, primed immediately and later painted as per the “Plascon” specifications. 20% of the steel structure could not be salvaged and therefore along with roof sheeting, had to be replaced.
The new high bay which is 17m high was constructed of steel structure, roof sheeting and side cladding, this area is utilized for the testing of high voltage equipment.
A new fire sprinkler system with new water tanks and a fully fledged pump room was also installed to cater for future fires.
