WINNER: GIURICICH COASTAL PROJECTS (PTY.) LTD, "WESTVILLE MALL"
Westville Mall is an 8 000sqm community centre that had not seen a revamp for many years, some would say that it was trapped and forgotten in the eighties. When the centre was bought over by Acucapt, the investor saw the value of this little community centre as well as its growth potential by increasing its GLA by 350sqm and giving the centre a complete facelift, not only internally but also externally.
The architecture for the building is stylized and modern. Clip on walkway roofs with exposed steel work soften the strong horizontal concrete façade. The two entrances again reflect the same roof detailing. The six main columns are clad with red face brick faggots.
The design and colour in the mall is clean and simple. The horizontal line character of the brick faggot cladding of the external columns are reflective in the timber slatted mall furniture.
