Winner: WBHO Construction KZN, ABSA Regional Office Kwazulu-Natal

One of the key focal points of the building is its entrance. The impressive raking columns which cross over each other at the entrance as well as carrying a large area of the roof slab are one of the first details which catch your eye when entering the building. Walking past these columns and into the reception you are welcomed into a large open “atrium” which is emphasised by the flush glazed façade spanning the full height of the building and the 17m high off shutter columns with the perfectly crafted timber screen to clad the lift lobbies.

Many actions were taken to allow the building to achieve its four star GBCSA rating. The building utilizes a solar water heating system on the roof. This water is used to supply hot water to the fully equipped kitchen. Other actions taken include a full cyclist change room to promote employees of ABSA to use alternative methods in getting to work. There are also specific parking bays reserved for alternative fuel use only vehicles. Eco-friendly paint has been painted on the walls throughout the building. The whole building works of light sensors which ensures lights are only powered if there is activity in the area. We also used environmental waste companies to dispose of waste during construction.
