Winner: Deck, Steel & Concrete CC, House Daniel

This project was, by all standards a fairly simple one in that all the building is rectangular in shape. The only challenge encountered was working in a bit of a confined space as the Owner required us to construct the building around Indigenous trees.

Excavations were done mechanically by means of utilizing a TLB & skid steer loader.

The safety aspect of the project was by far an excellent achievement in that there were no major injuries apart from minor scratches and cuts suffered by few employees, thanks to high class health and safety supervision by DSC, Health and Safety department that ensured that the working environment was safe for both employees and visitors.

Highly Commended: Shospec (Pty)Ltd, House Wolhuter

This project consisted of a light steel frame residential house, with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathroom. It features an open plan lounge and dining room, as well as a scullery and courtyard. This project also includes a double garage, open patio and braai area. The driveway included 150└2 concrete strips.

Highly Commended: D Construction, House Barnard – St Johns Village

The scope of work on this project was to construct a single storey house in St Johns estate in Howick. The estate in its self poses some serious challenges for any builder as it borders on a conservancy where streams and wildlife are present, posing environmental challenges that include general working space.

The soil conditions in the estate required raft slab and foundation with earthworks to prepare the site. The conventional brick construction was a combination of face and plastered finish. The Flooring was a combination of carpets and tiles with Aluminium windows and doors. Fully skimmed ceilings with underfloor heating installed in the flooring. The roof was wooden truss with corrugated chromodek and exposed trusses in the living room area. The finishes in the kitchen included supawood cupboards with quartz tops.
