Winner: Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN - Mercedes Benz South Africa - J Site

Stefanutti Stocks has enjoyed a long relationship with the motor trade that has seen the group constructing facilities for a number of well-known vehicle brands. These facilities range from production facilities, body shops and parts warehouses all the way through to showrooms.

To complicate design and construction there was a river running through the new car parks required at Gate 2 complex and the building.
The contract comprised 2 sections (1) The Logistics Building and (2) the construction of a new Gate 2 Complex with associated truck stacking and car lanes parking, hawker stalls and taxi drop off zones. As mentioned previously a river ran through both sites.

Our commencement on site started with our crews breaking ground on the 6th April 2017. Completion was achieved in June 2018.

The project involved the construction of a new 24,000m2 Logistics Warehouse and main logistics entrance gate and parking area for Mercedes Benz South Africa at their plant in East London which produces all variants of the C-Class Mercedes Benz predominantly for international export. The Client’s need for the facility is due to the anticipated increase in demand for the C-Class Mercedes Benz and to accommodate the increased volume of components to be stored on the plant.

The new warehouse was built on land that had been purchased adjacent to the plant and as such at the start of the project the construction works were outside of the plant which facilitated site logistics as there wasn’t a need for all resources to access via the Plant security.

Once the gatehouse and warehouse were incorporated into the plant area the Client traffic had to be accommodated through the various site areas. This required regular interface meeting with the Client to agree detailed traffic management planning the construction works while ensure no disruption of plant traffic.
