Dear Members and Readers
The Association continues to drive its lobbying and advocacy role with participation at key industry platforms. During the past month, the Association participated in engagements with Ray Nkonyeni municipality in the South Coast on key industry and member concerns. The Association was also represented at the Empowering Women in the Built Environment Summit hosted by the Department of Human Settlements and Public Works and took the opportunity to showcase and promote the Association at the event. At our last Member Forum meeting there was robust engagement around the JBCC Agreement which included the use of different versions and amendments to the JBCC amongst other issues. Members must rest assured that there are engagement structures at which our member challenges are tabled for further intervention. The Association is running an exciting member promotion campaign, which commenced with advertising on East Coast radio earlier in the year. We are pleased to announce that we are in the process of commissioning an App which will strategically place all our members at the push of a button from potential clients. The App will be formally launched at one of our key events. Members are informed that the criteria and value proposition of the Small Business Member category has been revised and seeks to assist both existing and new members who qualify for membership in this category. Look out for further information in this regard. The Master Builders South Africa Congress will take place on 9 September 2019 in Gauteng and aims to address construction industry challenges. The Congress will be attended by Association delegates and the platform will be utilised to address the concerns of our members at a national level. The CIDB Standard for Uniformity in Engineering and Construction Works Contracts, which aims to ensure conformity throughout South Africa with regard to the tender process is covered in this edition. Members are encouraged to make sure they are aware of the correct processes that government departments, implementing agents and local authorities have to follow. In addition to our health and safety article which provides pointers on how to develop a fall protection plan, we also bring you some advice on how to manage the abuse of sick leave. Enjoy your Newsletter ...
