Pieter Rautenbach (Recipient - Lifetime Achievement Award)

Winner: Inyoni Homes CC - House Sandwith

This home was designed for our clients who plan to retire on the south coast. It is a typical single story home built in a traditional colonial theme as required within the estate.

Highly Commended: SJC Projects - Brooklyn Estate - Unit 15

Residential home in small secure estate in Ballito on the North Coast of KZN.

Supreme Winner: Leocon CC - Nuform Premises

The construction of a light industrial building with offices and a shop in the industrial area, situate in Quarry road, Uvongo. Full, professional and complete attendance to paving and landscaping ensured that the new owners could occupy a fully developed and landscaped, aesthetically pleasing, low maintenance residence, right from the onset, enjoying unique water features, with attention to minor detail.

"This project shows how we can use materials found on site to be creative and to reduce overall building costs. This site had rock that required removal however the project team decided to use this rock for construction and feature retaining walls. This reduced costs and produced a very attractive and state of the art building.

The team went further and used the owners waste from his business to manufacture fixtures and fittings. Old scaffolding was recycled to produce shelving, joinery fittings and furniture.

Leocon can be justifiably proud of this project with their excellent workmanship and innovation in producing a project that they and the owner can use to promote their business to future clients."

Winner: Inyoni Homes CC - Prince Sigcau

This home was designed for our clients who plan to retire on the south coast. It is a typical single story home built in a traditional colonial theme as required within the estate.
The home is built on a raft foundation. We have used clay bricks to construct the home with a Roan Satin face brick on the exterior. The engineer designed the raft with a ring beam that had a step back in it to give the illusion that the face brick comes up from the ground as if it were built on strip footings. The roof is prefabricated timber with roof tiles. Ceiling are 9mm gypsum board fully skimmed with shadow lines. The interior is plastered with two coats for a smooth finish. The floors are tiled with a tile selected by the client.

Highly Commended: R & M Construction CC - House Barnard

The scope of work on this project was to construct a double storey dwelling in Abrams Crest Estate in Kelso, on the mid-South Coast of KZN. The nature of the estate is of upmarket housing and so a challenge on the project was the “high-end” nature of the finishes. The estate poses several challenges with the strict rules that are imposed on contractors from the developer that limit the hours of work while also restricting work on weekends. Another challenge was the sandy soil conditions and the numerous levels involved in this multi-level dwelling which required complex cavity retaining walls.

Highly Commended: SJC Projects - Brooklyn No. 5

Residential home in small secure estate in Ballito on the North Coast of KZN
Construction Methods: Strip Footing, Brickwork, Concrete and Sheet Roof.
