WINNER: GROUP 5 AND WBHO JOINT VENTURE, HULAMIN EXPANSION PHASE II"
Feasibility studies revealed that another Foil Rolling Mill was required at Hulamin to keep up with the market demand. The lack of Space in the plant meant that part of the existing plant had to be demolished to allow the construction of the new mill to take place. The space granted was kept to a minimum to allow the balance of the plant to operate as normal without losing revenue.
The design of the Mill centered on the specifications set out by the German manufacturers of the Mill machinery, Achenbach. The model presented showed quite an intricate concrete structure that needed to be accommodated.
Emphasis was placed on accuracy and the required tolerance levels on the positions and levels of the cast-in metalwork items. Special tolerances of within 3mm were achieved by subcontracting an external surveyor with state of the art equipment.
With industrial projects such as this, the excellent concrete work and the challenges faced to achieve such accuracy are soon forgotten when the industrial plant is installed. However when the machinery being installed fits perfectly into the foundations, and when everything stands in place and withstands the loads after commissioning, then the true purpose of the concrete foundations, have been achieved
