WINNER: WBHO CONSTRUCTION KZN - GROWTHPOINT ILLOVO OFFICE DEVELOPMENT

The project construction value of approximately 252 million Rand spans over a 16 month period and covers approximately 15,000m2 Gross Lettable Area of prime real estate in the sought after Ridgeside Office Precinct, Umhlanga. By sharing a super basement and certain common facilities both buildings enjoy the benefits of maximising efficiencies in capital costs and operating costs, as well as minimising the impact on the environment. With Its innovative filtered glass façade and glass fritted fins it has set the industry benchmark for iconic looking and efficient Green office buildings in South Africa.

HIGHLY COMMENDED 1: WBHO CONSTRUCTION KZN - RIDGE 6 OFFICE DEVELOPMENT   

Ridge six comprised of a 16000m2 ten story high-rise building. This encompassed 3 levels of basement and 6 levels of office space. The structure included three lift shafts and 4 main staircases. The roof was multi levelled with a heavy plaster facade. Overall duration was 11 months.

A combination of both brickwork/blockwork and plaster and glazing made up the facades including some of the tenant fit outs.

Lion Match Company Facade

HIGHLY COMMENDED 2: GCP PROJECTS SA (PTY) LTD - LION MATCH HEAD OFFICE             

The Lion Match building is the first new building in Mahatma Gandhi Road in decades. The challenge was the insertion of a contemporary building in a historic precinct, the Point representing one of the first areas settled in Durban. The site has incredible views which was maximized upon in the design. The main stair linking the ground floor to the offices is semi-circular, as a memory of the original Lion Match building in Umgeni Road.
